I [personally solemnly] warn everyone who listens to the statements of the prophecy [the predictions and the consolations and admonitions pertaining to them] in this book: If anyone shall add anything to them, God will add and lay upon him the plagues (the afflictions and the calamities) that are recorded and described in this book.
And if anyone cancels or takes away from the statements of the book of this prophecy [these predictions relating to Christ’s kingdom and its speedy triumph, together with the consolations and admonitions or warnings pertaining to them], God will cancel and take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the city of holiness (purity and hallowedness), which are described and promised in this book.

He Who gives this warning and affirms and testifies to these things says, Yes (it is true). [Surely] I am coming quickly (swiftly, speedily). Amen (so let it be)! Yes, come, Lord Jesus!

These final words, not only in the Book of Revelation, but in The Bible bring a warning and a promise. The warning is to all to heed the truth of what is written in Scripture and to beware of perverting that truth in any way. In other words, ‘even the slightest deviation from the truth written in this book, turns it into a lie, for every word is carefully chosen, Spirit-breathed and from the throne of The Almighty’.

It is a warning to be heeded today, just as much, if not more so than at any time in the last two thousand years, as we live in an increasingly fractured world where people refer to ‘my truth’ instead of ‘the truth! My truth flits and fades with the wind of my fancy as it pleases, but The ​truth stands as a rock for all eternity. My truth is no more than my opinion, and in the Spirit realm the consequences of error are dire. We all must rely on living by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4b), hearing by His Holy Spirit.

Before this, John reports Jesus’ words, “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” (Revelation 22:12-13). Jesus assures us that He is coming quickly, so what are we to take from that? The word ‘coming’ is erchomai in Greek and has a variety of meanings — to come, go, appear, accompany, pass, be set — either now, or describing an ongoing or unfinished action.

John adds his own expression of faith, with “Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”. ​In 1 Corinthians 16:22, Paul says, “If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. O Lord, come!" And John explains the means of this 'coming' in 1 JOHN 5:6 'This is He who came by water* and blood** - Jesus Christ; not only by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.'
* water: water often equates with The Word, our being 'washed with the water of the Word' and JOHN 1:1 reveals Jesus Christ as The Word. 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.'
**blood: blood is life, and Jesus is 'The Way, The Truth and The Life', as well as 'the atoning blood of Christ'.
For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water and the blood; and these three agree as one.
1 JOHN 5:7-8
Thus, as the three aspects of Divinity who bear witness in heaven come together with that threefold witness in us on earth, we have the gift of eternal life through Christ.
And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the son of God does not have life.
1 JOHN 5:11-12
It is because Jesus came to us, that we can have life everlasting, and we need Him perpetually with us and in us - 'Christ in you the hope of glory' - His forever coming within us.
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?
