LIVELY STONES MEDITATIONS

Let Us Go Into The House Of The Lord

15/9/2021

Tuesday Gatherings — 14th September 2021

I was glad when they said to me,
"Let us go into the house of the LORD."
[Psalm 122:1 NKJV]
There was a leading from the Spirit in this week’s Gathering to ‘come into the House of the Lord’ either by Psalm 122 verse 1 or by our opening praise “We have come into this house”. Indeed, this was very much a praising meeting as you will see from our song list below. Here are our notes of what was shared, expanded slightly and with scripture quotes (bold and in italics). We pray that we have caught the spirit of the gathering:
  • See the Christ in a people — a corporate work
  • Compassion to neighbours — to all — “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:” [John 17:22 NKJV] It starts in the house (“we have come into this house”) — love your brother/sister as yourself because he/she is you in The Lord’s eyes (a work in progress) — “pick up your bed and walk” (actually, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” in Mark 2:11)— a word about our walk with Him and our healing (salvation). Note it is ‘go to your house’.
  • Power to heal, but He requires that we reach out to Him — “And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. Then He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other.” [Matthew 12:10a+13b NKJV] — In ‘Acts’, the disciples acted in compassion — Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." [Acts 3:6 NKJV] — His healing is a spiritual work.
  • If you are going to come ‘into His house’, then come with a full heart — a heart to take part.
  • Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself." Love does no harm to a neighbour; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. [Romans 13:8-10 NKJV]
  • There is an urgency in this hour (without anxiety) to press on. Are we really serious? Jesus’ flesh was tried at all points. We must proclaim and declare — there is much ‘unseen’, and what is unseen in the spirit realms (profoundly) affect the natural — every day is a battlefield, but approach things ‘in the Spirit’ (putting on the armour of God) and it is a whole different story.
  • We read a ‘Seeds of the Kingdom’ devotional by Peter Horrobin, entitled ‘Living Water and Crack-free Cisterns’ taken a message from Jeremiah 2:13 "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.” — the people were finding their own supply; we are called to be perfect vessels without cracks or flaws. The full cistern of Heaven will replace the empty one of the world. — AUDIO AVAILABLE BELOW.
  • The future of worship would seem to be with small (maybe interconnected) body groups and prayer fellowships and rather than the larger denominational churches of the past.
  • A vision of a cell or molecule multiplying at an increasing rate, but holding together to form a whole.
  • We are all (who believe in Him), strangers in a strange land — Then [The Lord God] said to Abram: "Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. [Genesis 15:13-14 NKJV]
  • We heard ‘Word For Today’, ‘Spiritual Growth is A Group Project’, which quoted The Message from Ephesians 2:18-20. He treated us as equals, and so made us equals. Through him we both share the same Spirit and have equal access to the Father. That's plain enough, isn't it? You're no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You're no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He's using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he's using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone. — AUDIO AVAILABLE BELOW.
  • God puts the lonely into families — God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. [Psalm 68:6 NKJV]

Oswald Chambers on Joy and Peace
Joy: Strength in The Lord

When a man or woman realises what God does work in them through Jesus Christ, they become almost lunatic with joy in the eyes of the world. It is this truth we are trying to state — the realisation of the wonderful salvation of God.

Living Water and Crack-free Cisterns!

Jeremiah 2:13, NIV “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

There were many different things that God’s people did when they turned their back on the living God – the list of sins that would be needed to describe all their ungodly activities would have been very long! But when, through the prophet Jeremiah, God began to speak words of rebuke, he reduced all their sinful behaviour into just two categories.

Firstly, they had deserted the only source of living water and secondly, they had tried to generate their own ‘water supply’ as a substitute for the living water that flows from the heart of God.

In Israel, underground cisterns were vital for the storage of water for use during the dry season. Without a good cistern people would die through lack of water. A cracked cistern was useless, water would flow into it alright. But the water would all leak away through the cracks so that when the water was most needed, there would be no water there.

God uses this picture to speak to His people about what they had been doing. He uses the need for physical water as a parable of the need for the living spiritual water, which sustains God’s people through all the ups and downs of life. The first sin of God’s people was to decide that they wanted an alternative source of supply, so instead of constantly coming back to the only source of living water, they did what mankind has tried to do throughout history – they built their own cistern, which embraced everything from idolatry to sexual immorality. They finished up believing that good was bad and bad was good and going in the opposite direction to the ways of God.

God had provided for them everything that was needful for living in covenant relationship with the God who had created the world and everything in it. But pride in the heart of man will always want to build an alternative way, and say it’s better than what God provided in the first place. Ultimately this is the foundation for every alternative belief system, false religion or moral order that has ever risen up in the heart of man and practised on the face of the earth.

It’s easy to look at the people of Jeremiah’s day and ask, “How could they?” But all we need to do is look at our own generation and see that 21st century man is no different. Part of the reason why I believe God put the vision for Ellel 365 into my heart was to ensure that within Ellel Ministries there’s a constant flow of living water from God’s Word and that people are able to know how to build a cistern in their own lives that is sound and without cracks.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to only ever want the living water which flows from your heart to the heart of man. And give me the determination to rebuild sound and crack-free cisterns in my own life, so that the Water of Life will always be available to me throughout my days – even in seasons of drought. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Spiritual Growth Is A Group Project

‘Let us go into the house of the LORD.’ Psalm 122:1 NKJV

The psalmist said, ‘I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.”’ Do you feel that way about God’s house too? And if not, why not? Paul writes: ‘God is building a home. He’s using us all – irrespective of how we got here – in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day – a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home’ (Ephesians 2:19-22 MSG).

There are times when you need to be alone with God in prayer; there are times you’ll only find the answer you seek when you’re with God’s people. When those who are indwelt by God’s Spirit meet for worship, teaching, encouragement and service, God shows up in a powerful way. You grow spiritually as you experience His presence, hear His Word, and fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Every time you gather with other members of Christ’s body, it reminds you again that you’re on the winning side.

It’s hard to celebrate by yourself. When you’ve something worth celebrating you generally call people together so you can share the joy, right? Jesus is so excited about His victory at the cross, that He calls us together every week to celebrate what He accomplished for us. And celebration, like spiritual growth, is a group project.
