O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. [Psalm 95:1] Our salvation seems to me to be an ongoing process. We were saved when we gave our hearts to Jesus, we are being saved every day we embrace His life, and we shall be saved at the end of the matter. We must follow Paul's injunction: Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. [Philippians 2:12] There is – as has often been said – a co-labouring with the Holy Spirit to keep us on Salvation Road. We have to keep ourselves open and receptive to the Holy Spirit work in us. It takes an active response on our part to come before His presence, and it needs to be done with joy and thanksgiving – and just there is the point where the LORD begins to work. The act of praising the LORD, however out-of-tune or raucous it may seem to us, is a sweet-smelling savour to our God. He loves to hear our praises and our worship of Him, and He returns that love to us in abundance, by putting joy and thanksgiving in our hearts. Nothing drives away despondency more quickly or effectively than making a joyful noise unto Him! Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. {come…: Heb. prevent his face} For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. {In…: Heb. In whose} {the strength…: or, the heights of the hills are his} [Psalm 95:2-4 KJV] “Rock of Our Salvation” - Bright City OSWALD CHAMBERS - RUN TODAY’S RACE
