The Shulamite Draw me away! The Daughters of Jerusalem We will run after you. The Shulamite The king has brought me into his chambers. The Daughters of Jerusalem We will be glad and rejoice in you. We will remember your love more than wine. The Shulamite Rightly do they love you. [Song of Solomon 1:4 NKJV] The Song of Solomon is one of the most poetic books in Scripture and filled with beautiful imagery; but it also speaks of so much more and can be seen as exceptionally and spiritually profound. Right from verse 1 (The song of songs, which is Solomon's.) we are told that this is ‘a song above all songs’, written by Solomon, whose name means ‘perfect peace’. This is the beginning of the realisation of a deep relationship with The Lord, when our focus loosens its grip on myself and instead fastens on Him. Verse 2, which begins with ‘Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth--For your love is better than wine’, is an initial statement that we are to have an intimate and deeply personal relationship with our Saviour, which is realised when He has ‘brought me into His chambers’. We can rejoice and be glad, of course, but we should see that this represents but the beginning of the relationship and much must be gone through before the ‘marriage’ can be consummated. The quality of this recording — both audio and video — leaves a lot to be desired, but it does transmit heartfelt and worshipful praise. We impoverish God’s ministry to us the moment we forget He is Almighty; the impoverishment is in us, not in Him. We will come to Jesus as Comforter or as Sympathiser, but we will not come to Him as Almighty. |
MEDITATE ON THESE THINGS…Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. Archives
